Important Information for Debit & Credit Cardholders

When it comes to fraud, taking care of our members' accounts is Alliance Catholic Credit Union's top priority. We want to remind you how you can also help to protect your account.

Fighting Fraud on Debit Card Transactions
As your Credit Union, we work hard every day to protect our members and their money. When we notice patterns and trends of fraud in certain areas, we take action by implementing various fraud protection tools. As a result, you may find it necessary at times to use your 4-digit PIN (Personal Identification Number) when making purchases with your debit card.
If Your Debit Card Transaction is Declined
If your debit card transaction is declined when trying to use it as "credit" with a signature, please try your transaction again as "debit" using your 4-digit PIN.
Fighting Fraud on Credit Card Transactions
Fraud can impact your credit cards as well. Be sure to monitor credit card accounts on a regular basis through ACCU's Online Banking and report unusual activity. At times you may also be asked to confirm the 3-digit code located on the back of your credit card to help prevent fraud and verify that the order is being placed by the real cardholder. This is especially important when the actual card is not present.

Preventing Fraud on Your Accounts
It is important that you help us keep your account information safe and secure. If you are traveling be sure to notify us so that we may notate your account with a travel alert. Be prepared to use your 4-digit PIN when making purchases with your debit card. If any suspicious transactions are identified, we will contact you immediately.
Best Practices
  • Monitor your accounts on a regular basis through ACCU's Online Banking or Audio Teller for suspicious activity. Notify us immediately if you identify any unusual activity or unauthorized transactions using the numbers listed above. 
  • Set up email or text alerts through ACCU's Online Banking to notify you of any transactions that hit your account above a certain dollar amount.
  • When making purchases online, be sure you are accessing a secure account before entering your personal information. Look for things like https:// and a green security lock in the address bar to be sure this is the case.
  • Protect or shred documents that contain personal information or account information. This includes junk mail and other items.
  • Be sure to have your current phone number, e-mail and mailing address on your account(s) in case we need to contact you.
